On Thursday, February 16th, 2012 IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter, in cooperation with the IEEE student Branch of the University of Patras organize a seminar entitled:

"Human-Computer Interaction & Artificial Intelligence"

The purpose of this event is to present to the public the sectors and research applications that have been developed by the laboratories of  Human-Computer Interaction and Wire Communications, which also includes the area of Artificial Intelligence.

  •  The Wire Communications Laboratory (WCL) is part of the Telecommunications and Information Technology Division that belongs to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department(ECE) of the University of Patras, Greece.WCL originally focused on telephony but throughout the years has developed substantial research and teaching expertise in the fields of Telecommunications, and Networks,  Information Processing. and Artificial Intelligence, and Electroacoustics. Such wide range of activities has been organised around seven (7) separate Research Groups with distinct research topics:
    • Artificial Intelligence Group
    • Audio and Acoustics Technology
    • Communication Networks, Teletraffic Engineering and Applications
    • Communications and Telematic Applications
    • Digital Transmission and Coding
    • Network Architectures and Management
    • Pattern Recognition

    The research activity of the Wire Communications Laboratory as it is carried out by the Research Groups is multifarious and covers both basic and Applied reserach. The research is being carried out in the context of European, National and industrial projects.

  • The Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Group of the University of Patras is active since 1994. The group is part of the new Interactive Technologies Lab that was established in 2010.The group is made of over 15 researchers and technical staff. The group infrastructure comprises a usability laboratory, eye tracking and user monitoring equipment, portable devices development and testing methods and tools, multimedia and software development tools. A number of tools have been developed and are made available for supporting collaborative activities and conducting usability studies.The areas of activity of the group are: Software usability and interactive systems evaluation, Internet and agent-based applications, Collaborative learning and work, Intelligent interfaces and operator support systems, Data visualisation, Knowledge discovery in data, Context-aware computing and Usability of mobile devices. Application fields are education, environmental and various industrial areas.
